As the new PNL-led government of Prime Minister Ludovic Orban was today approved by the Romanian parliament, the President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Joseph Daul made the following statement:

“I would like to congratulate Prime Minister Ludovic Orban on taking office and putting in place a credible, responsible and a pro-European government. I would also like to commend Ludovic Orban’s courage and determination for making what previously seemed impossible, possible: that of giving the Romanians a centre-right government. I believe with this PNL-led government, he is giving Romania a new start and bringing hope to all his citizens.”

President Daul pointed out that the new Prime Minister will now face “the difficult task of correcting the damage inflicted on the country by the Socialist government”.

“For years democratic standards were weakened, the rule of law ignored, and the reputation of Romania in Europe suffered,” underlined Daul.

“I am certain that Ludovic Orban, together with President Iohannis, will take the urgent and necessary steps to ensure the rule of law prevails, the justice system functions and Romania becomes a reliable partner in the region and in Europe once more. EPP stands by its parties and fully endorses the new government in achieving these goals. On behalf of the EPP, I would like to congratulate Prime Minister Ludovic Orban and wish him well as he leads government,” concluded EPP President Joseph Daul.
