Commenting on the European Parliament resolution calling for an arms embargo against Saudi Arabia following the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the European Green Party co-chairs Reinhard Bütikofer and Monica Frassoni said:

“The European-wide indignation at the brutal and provocative murder of Jamal Khashoggi has found a clear expression in the resolution of the European Parliament. Parliament demands that indignation be followed by action. Europe’s democracies must not only speak critically, but also take tangible action so as not to betray their own values.

“An arms embargo against Saudi Arabia is urgently needed to put an end to a conflict in Yemen that has become the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

“All European countries that supply arms to Saudi Arabia, including France – by far the largest European arms exporter to Saudi Arabia – must show that they will not look the other way in the face of such gross injustice.”
