Representatives of seven European political parties jointly wrote on Tuesday an open letter to Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, protesting against the advertisement policy of Facebook. The letter was initiated by the European Greens and has been co-signed by the European People’s Party (EPP), the Party of European Socialists (PES), the Alliance of Conservatives and Reformists (ACRE), the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE), the European United Left–Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) and the European Free Alliance (EFA).

“We believe that Facebook’s restricted new advertisement policy creates a major impediment for our online campaign towards the European elections. That is completely unjustified and unnecessary. We expect Facebook to change course in order to comply with European rules and avoid obstructing democracy.”
