Ending four months of tense negotiations, Sweden’s Social Democratic leader Stefan Löfven has been confirmed as Prime Minister of Sweden after a vote in the Riksdag.

S&D Group leader Udo Bullmann today expressed his congratulations.

“This is good news not only for Sweden but for the whole of Europe: I am happy that Stefan Löfven succeeded in building a new progressive government after four months of political deadlock. We send him our congratulations and wish him good luck!” Bullmann stated.

“With right-wing extremism and nationalism on the rise and growing inequalities, we need more than ever Social Democratic leaders in European capitals to support the right decisions in the Council. We are looking forward to working closely together for a better Europe that serves the many not the few: for fair jobs and wages, for a healthy environment, for gender equality, media freedom and democracy,” he concluded.
