On June 5 the leaders of four political groups of the European Parliament – EPP, S&D, ALDE and Greens/EFA –met for the second time since the European Parliament elections.

The leaders issued a Joint Statement regarding the process of the election of the upcoming President of the European Commission.

“We agreed on a political process aimed at defining a common ambition for the next legislative period. This will provide the basis on which we expect the upcoming President of the European Commission to commit in order to enjoy a broad and stable majority in the European Parliament. The work is planned to start on the 12th of June and to be completed in time for the next European Council. We are strongly encouraged by the substantially increased number of our fellow citizens who took part in the elections. It is our common intent to engage constructively with each other, taking into account their demands for change, in order to demonstrate that the European Union can deliver for each and everyone.”

The Statement is signed by Manfred Weber (EPP), Udo Bullmann (S&D), Guy Verhofstadt (ALDE), Ska Keller and Philippe Lamberts for the Greens.
