Finland has been selected as one of the countries implementing European Union measures to supply Ukraine with defence materials through proceeds from frozen Russian assets. The Finnish government has agreed with the European Commission to provide heavy ammunition to Ukraine, which will be sourced from Finnish suppliers.

“We were able to negotiate additional funding for Finland’s support for Ukraine. The funds come from frozen Russian assets. The products are purchased from the Finnish industry to boost employment at home and sent to Ukraine to help its defence. I am very pleased with the outcome,” said Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.

This procurement is set to be financed through funds derived from the frozen Russian assets, facilitated by the European Peace Facility (EPF). The total value of this agreement is €90 million.

Minister Häkkänen has highlighted that Finland’s support for Ukraine is steadfast and multifaceted. This new initiative, along with Finland’s national support programme amounting to EUR 660 million, aims to enhance collaboration between the Finnish industry and the country’s commitment to supporting Ukraine.

“This is a great example of the Finnish defence industry’s abilities, and it shows that our investments into ammunition production capacity are paying off,” the Minister added.
