Moldova-EU first bilateral Summit will bring the country closer to EU accession

The European Union (EU) and the Republic of Moldova will hold their first bilateral Summit in Chisinau on 4 July, marking a significant step in Moldova’s path toward EU accession. This meeting, which follows the 9th EU-Moldova Association Council, reaffirms the EU’s commitment to supporting Moldova’s reforms and European aspirations.

Attendees will include top EU leaders, such as António Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, as well as Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova. Their presence underscores a message of unity and support for Moldova’s European future amid a challenging geopolitical climate, particularly due to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Despite facing several challenges—such as airspace violations, refugee impacts, disinformation, and energy crises—Moldova has made considerable progress toward European integration. The Summit will focus on Moldova’s sovereignty, security, and resilience while highlighting the EU’s ongoing political and financial support.

Coinciding with the Summit, the “Same Path, Same Future” campaign showcases the positive effects of EU assistance on local communities, businesses, and citizens. Through video testimonials, various stakeholders illustrate how EU support has transformed key areas, including digitalisation and civil society.

Ultimately, this Summit marks a pivotal moment in EU-Moldova relations, reinforcing the EU’s commitment to a stable, democratic, and resilient Moldova.
