A recent poll conducted by the Publicus Institute, as reported by the Nepszava daily, indicates that 59% of Hungarians believe that US President Donald Trump is contributing more to global conflict than to peace. Conversely, 28% of respondents said Trump is fostering peace, while 13% chose not to comment.

Among the voters of the authoritarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s ruling Fidesz party, 70% believe that President Trump is helping to alleviate international conflicts. In contrast, only 7% of opposition supporters and 29% of undecided voters share this viewpoint. Overall, 31% of the Hungarian public expresses trust in President Trump, with this figure rising to 78% among Fidesz supporters, while it remains at 7% among opposition voters and 31% among those undecided.

When asked about the potential impact of a Trump presidency on Hungary, 38% of respondents anticipated positive outcomes, while 48% expressed the opposite.

During a visit to Budapest on Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a press conference that Trump is deeply committed to Orbán’s success, emphasising that the United States has a vested interest in Hungary’s prosperity.

Trump has previously expressed his support for Orbán in a social media post. As a noteworthy point, parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for 12 April, and independent polls suggest that the opposition party, Tisza, leads Fidesz by several to up to a dozen percentage points.
