The European Union (EU) and the Government of Lesotho will launch a comprehensive five-day training course on “Strengthening Fiscal Discipline” for key stakeholders in the country. The workshop aims to train Lesotho Government planners and other senior officials in best practices for strengthening fiscal discipline, enhancing debt sustainability, reducing non-essential expenditures, and increasing Government revenues.
This workshop marks a significant milestone in the partnership between the EU and Lesotho, aligning with the broader objective of advancing Public Financial Management (PFM) reforms and promoting sustainable economic development. Other ongoing actions include supporting the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning in its Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) self-assessment and formulating the related Strategic Programme to improve PFM outcomes.
The upcoming workshop is a testament to the collaborative spirit between stakeholders from Lesotho and Europe in enhancing financial governance. It will serve as a platform to share best practices, discuss challenges, and develop strategies. The training will specifically concentrate on fiscal discipline, while also integrating considerations for gender, youth, and climate risks. This EU-funded initiative is designed to empower government officials and stakeholders with the skills necessary for sustainable financial management.
