A recent poll conducted by the Allensbach Institute reveals that nearly two-thirds of Germans perceive the United States as a significant threat to world peace. In contrast, 81% of respondents identify Russia as the foremost threat. The survey indicates that 65% of Germans believe the United States poses a serious threat to global stability, a notable rise from 46% one year ago and 24% in 2024, the final year of Joe Biden‘s presidency.

Russia remains the country most frequently cited as a threat by the German population. Since the beginning of Russia’s extensive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, between 75% and 82% of respondents have consistently identified Russia as the principal threat to global peace, with the current figure at 81%. Regarding perceptions of China, the survey found that nearly half (46%) of Germans believe China poses a threat to world peace.

Furthermore, the survey inquired about the likelihood of Germany becoming involved in war in the coming years. Only 3% of those surveyed considered this scenario “very likely,” while 28% regarded it as “rather likely.” In contrast, 40% assessed Germany’s potential involvement in conflict as “rather unlikely,” and 5% deemed it “very unlikely.”
