The Ukrainian military is collaborating with European nations to share its expertise in countering Russian drones, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Recently, Ukraine sent a mission to Denmark for joint military exercises focused on drone defence.
In mid-September, Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal and Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the establishment of a joint task force to deploy uncrewed systems. This initiative aims to exchange military experiences in drone warfare, develop methods for intercepting drones, and improve interoperability between their armed forces.
Denmark, which has noted an increase in Russian drone activity, is also participating in these efforts. Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine’s military experience is crucial for Europe’s defence against drones.
European defence ministers have agreed to establish a “drone wall” along borders with Russia and Ukraine to enhance detection and interception capabilities.
Despite these efforts, Europe’s technological readiness remains behind that of Ukraine and Russia. Danish intelligence has raised concerns about potential Russian espionage and sabotage, while NATO is increasing aerial surveillance in the Baltic Sea in response to airspace violations by Russian military aircraft. France, Germany, and Sweden are also supporting Denmark’s air defence initiatives.
