Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from the delegation for relations with the United States will travel to Washington, D.C., from Wednesday to Friday for talks with representatives of the US Congress. This visit comes in light of US President Donald Trump‘s recent announcement of extensive tariffs on global trade partners.

The delegation, led by Brando Benifei (S&D, Italy), will mainly meet with US Congress representatives to prepare for the upcoming Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue (TLD), a forum aimed at strengthening relations between the European Parliament and Congress.

On Thursday, the MEPs will meet with members of the House of Representatives committee responsible for strategic competition between the US and China. They will also meet with the new leadership of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and members of the House EU Caucus. Discussions are expected to focus on developments in Europe, particularly regarding Ukraine, along with bilateral trade, EU-NATO cooperation, the future of transatlantic ties, and relations with China.

On Thursday and Friday, the MEPs will also hold meetings with representatives from the US State Department, as well as with think tanks and members of the US Chamber of Commerce.

The MEPs in the delegation are part of the enlarged bureau of the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue. In addition to Brando Benifei, the delegation includes European Parliament Vice-President Sophie Wilmès (Renew Europe, Belgium), Foreign Affairs Committee Chair David McAllister (EPP, Germany), International Trade Committee Chair Bernd Lange (S&D, Germany), and MichaÅ‚ Szczerba (EPP, Poland), who serves as the Foreign Affairs Committee’s standing rapporteur for the US.
