A huge rally in Prague’s Letna park took place today calling for Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to stand down over corruption.

“The huge crowds in Letna park today are a clear signal that the people of the Czech Republic want to turn the page on the lies and corruption that have plagued the country’s leadership,” said the European Green Party co-chairs Monica Frassoni and Reinhard Bütikofer.

“The people deserve clarity on the dodgy dealings of a Prime Minister who has felt no shame in using public funds to expand his personal Agrofert business interests and multi-billion euro fortune.  He must respond to the accusations and if guilty, be prosecuted. As Greens, we support the people who are standing up for the fundamental rights that people deserve as a modern European democracy. Babiš’ recent blocking of more ambitious EU climate targets shows that he does not have people’s wider interests at heart. Pro-democracy forces must now rise up and show they can win in the Czech Republic,” Frassoni and Bütikofer added.
