On 31 March, University College London hosted the Baltic Symposium 2025, where experts from the Baltic states discussed their contributions to international security, advancements in artificial intelligence and digital security, as well as the development of creative industries and cultural diplomacy.

Latvia was represented by Andrejs Pildegovičs, Ambassador-at-Large and Director of the Latvian UN Security Council Campaign Task Force, and Ieva Zemīte, Associate Professor at the Latvian Academy of Culture. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former President of Estonia, delivered the keynote address.

Ambassador Pildegovičs emphasised Latvia’s priorities for its UN Security Council campaign, highlighting the motto “Together for Peace and Resilience.” He noted the importance of resilience for society and Latvia’s commitment to being a strong voice for the Baltic and Nordic regions in international forums.

Associate Professor Zemīte discussed Latvia’s initiatives in the creative industries, underscoring their contributions to the national economy through innovation.

The Baltic Symposium, organised biennially by the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the Embassies of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, aims to focus discussions on the Baltic states’ role in enhancing Europe’s security. This initiative supports Latvia’s candidacy for a seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.
