US President Donald Trump claimed today at Davos that Europe and NATO didn’t provide help to the US in times of need. Several European politicians reacted to these false claims.

Oana Țoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, an EU and NATO member, said that Europe answered the United States’ call when it needed it, recalling the moment of 11 September.

Her statement is significant given that Romania wasn’t a member of the alliance at the time.

“The only time in its history when NATO was put to the test in terms of the promise that an attack on one member is an attack on all was after 11 September,” the minister posted on X.

“Romania answered the call, even without being NATO member at that time. We understood this to be our duty and once the Article 5 was triggered, Romanian soldiers were boarding for Afghanistan. So did other Allies,” noted the Romanian politician.

“President Trump asked us now, at Davos, if Europe would answer the call of US in times of need. History answered that question already,” wrote Oana Țoiu.
