Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone call with Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico today, and, according to the Ukrainian president, they discussed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
The Slovak prime minister, who previously opposed Ukraine’s EU future, now supports its accession and is ready to offer his country’s experience to its neighbour.
“I just spoke with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico. We need to have strong relations between our states, and we are both interested in this. It was important to hear that Slovakia supports Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and is ready to share its experience of accession,” President Zelenskyy announced today with a post on X.
“I invited the Prime Minister to visit Kyiv and thanked him for his invitation to come to Bratislava. We also discussed the possibility of meeting in person in the near future. Our teams will work on the schedule.”
A possible meeting of the leaders in the near future was also discussed, Zelenskiy added.
