Genuine acts of sympathy from Czech citizens

On the sidelines of a summit in Brussels on Thursday, largely focused on Ukraine and Russia, the Czech President Petr Fiala met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy and handed him a gift from a Czech woman who attended his pre-election meetings.

The Czech Republic is among the most fervent supporters of the Ukrainian fight for territorial integrity and independence. Czech citizens have expressed their sympathy to the Ukrainian people several times and in several ways. All these, thanks to Fiala’s pro-EU government.

“At the beginning of the meeting with @ZelenskyyUa, I handed him a small gift – a crocheted brooch. During the campaign, a lady gave it to me with a request that it was crocheted by her granddaughter and whether I could pass it specifically to the president. I was happy to do so today,” PM Fiala posted on X.

However, Fiala’s coalition lost the general elections at the beginning of the month, and a pro-Moscow coalition government comprising far-right and right-wing extremist parties is expected to form.

“From the opposition ranks, we will continue to support Ukraine, and I believe that the new Czech government will build on our assistance to Ukraine to the greatest possible extent,” Fiala added on his post on X.
