Recent reports from the Polish newspaper “Rzeczpospolita” indicate that SÅ‚awomir Mentzen, the far-right presidential candidate, may soon face potential challenges regarding his New Hope party. On 9 May, the publication cited sources from the National Electoral Commission, revealing that the financial report for the New Hope party has not yet been submitted. Under Polish law, failure to submit this report can result in severe penalties, including removal from the official register.
According to the Act on Political Parties, all registered political entities must submit their financial reports by the end of March. Noncompliance with this obligation could lead the National Electoral Commission to petition the court for the party’s removal from the register, and the court is required to approve such a motion. The regulations are clear and do not allow exceptions.
The New Hope Party contends that it fulfilled its obligations on time, asserting that the necessary documents were submitted on the last permissible day. BartÅ‚omiej Pejo, the party’s vice-president and MP, stated that the financial report for 2024 and the auditor’s opinion were submitted to the National Electoral Commission on 31 March 2025. The party’s treasurer tries to clarify the situation with the Commission. However, “Rzeczpospolita” reports multiple sources confirm that New Hope’s financial report has not been submitted.
On a European scale, the New Hope party is affiliated with the Europe of Sovereign Nations (ESN) party at the European level and participates in the European Parliament within the ESN Group with three MEPs, alongside the Alternative for Germany (AfD) extremist party.
