On 1 July 2025, Denmark assumed its presidency of the Council of the European Union, a term lasting until 31 December 2025. Under the slogan “A Strong Europe in a Changing World,” the Danish Presidency aims to promote a secure, competitive, and sustainable Europe. The Danish government has established two primary priorities for this presidency:
A Safer Europe: This priority encompasses enhanced management of migration to the EU and continued support for Ukraine.
A Competitive and Green Europe: This initiative aims to advance economic competitiveness while prioritising environmental sustainability.
“The EU Presidency offers Denmark a unique opportunity to shape the European agenda, and we are ready to seize it. In today’s shifting geopolitical landscape, Europe must become significantly stronger, both economically, politically, and militarily,” said Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre.
Since she was appointed Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre has undertaken visits to all 27 EU member states, as well as to eight candidate countries. These engagements have enabled her to gain valuable insights into the perspectives of various nations regarding our collective challenges and the most effective approaches to address them.
“That is why we have set out an ambitious presidency programme aimed at enhancing the EU’s defence and security, providing support to Ukraine, and tackling irregular migration. All agendas where Denmark has already taken a leading role within the EU. At the same time, we will work to improve the conditions for European businesses by reducing regulatory burdens, while maintaining our commitment to the green transition. This will strengthen Europe’s long-term competitiveness. The Danish government is ready to get to work, and we look forward to delivering tangible results ,” added Minister Bjerre.
