Tisza party leader Péter Magyar, the winner of Sunday’s general elections in Hungary, arrived on Wednesday at the Sándor Palace for an important meeting with President Tamas Sulyok. Before entering the meeting, Magyar told reporters that President Sulyok must resign from his post once the TISZA government officially takes office, signalling a decisive shift in Hungary’s political landscape following the party’s landslide victory.
“I have arrived at the Sándor Palace to meet the President of Hungary,” Magyar posted on X after the meeting.
“@DrTamasSulyok is unworthy of representing the unity of the Hungarian nation. He is unfit to serve as the guardian of legality. He is not fit to serve as a moral authority or a role model. Following the formation of the new government, Tamás Sulyok must leave office immediately,” stated the leader of Tisza.
Sulyok, a notable ally of Viktor Orbán, was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court of Hungary in 2014 and subsequently became President in 2016. Throughout his tenure, he has presided over several significant rulings that have supported government policies. The Orbán administration undermined judicial independence, among other issues. Sulyok was elected in 2024 as the Fidesz–KDNP candidate for the presidential election.
