Political Dialogue between the European Union and Japan takes place in Brussels

On 12 March, the European Union (EU) and Japan held their annual Political Dialogue in Brussels. Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, and Takehiro Funakoshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the meeting.

During the Dialogue, the EU and Japan discussed various topics, including their relations and regional and international issues of shared interest. Both parties acknowledged the numerous global challenges, committed to strengthening their relationship, building a strategic partnership based on shared values, and firmly committed to multilateralism and the rules-based order. They also agreed to continue working closely on various matters, such as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and developments and opportunities for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific—additionally, the Dialogue covered issues such as nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and security concerns in East Asia. The following high-level political Dialogue will take place in Tokyo.
