The Security College has reviewed the evolving situation in Iran and the Middle East, along with its implications for the European Union. The Commission will focus its efforts on two main priorities: supporting Member States and protecting EU citizens from the negative consequences of the ongoing events in Iran and the Middle East.
The Commission’s efforts will particularly concentrate on the following areas:
Evacuation and Repatriation: The Commission is stepping up its support for Member States’ evacuation and repatriation initiatives through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and the Emergency Response Coordination Centre, collaborating closely with EU Delegations.
Transport Disruption Monitoring: The Commission is reinforcing its monitoring of transport disruption risks, especially around the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. It will also intensify coordination with airlines, shipping companies, and national authorities.
Energy Supply and Prices: The Commission is closely monitoring developments related to energy prices and supply. It will convene an Energy Task Force with Member States, in coordination with the International Energy Agency, with the first meeting scheduled for this week.
Internal Security: The Commission is maintaining heightened vigilance and will cooperate closely with Europol and Member States to address potential internal security risks.
Migration Preparedness: The Commission is enhancing its preparedness for migration challenges by closely monitoring trends and reinforcing cooperation with relevant UN agencies and partner countries.
