State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Marek Eštok, received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Slovak Republic, Revaz Beshidze, on Tuesday 28 November 2023.

“The Slovak Government is deeply interested in further enhancing bilateral relations with Georgia. In our view, there is great potential for intensifying cooperation, mainly in trade and economics. At the same time, Slovakia appreciates the progress made by the countries applying for EU membership, including Georgia, as they fulfil the recommendations of the European Commission. Georgia has now been recommended for candidate status. As its friend, Slovakia has long supported its integration into the EU,” said the State Secretary.

According to Eštok, continuing the reforms is crucial for Georgian society.

“We welcome the overall good legislative framework, institutional set-up and vibrant civil society in Georgia. These elements provide a solid basis for further progress in democratic reforms and measures to strengthen the rule of law. In particular, we underline the need to address anti-corruption. We will continue to closely monitor progress in the rule of law and the functioning of democratic institutions as essential conditions for future membership,” added the State Secretary Eštok.
